Power Factor Correction

Reactive-power penalties are a cost many facilities pay without realising. SOREAS designs and builds compensation systems that eliminate reactive penalties, resist harmonics and last.

Eliminate the penalty: the 20% / 15% limit

For facilities of 50 kVA and above, regulation limits inductive reactive consumption to 20% of active energy and capacitive to 15%. With reactive-power analysis and stage planning we keep your power factor within these limits and zero out the reactive-penalty line on your bill.

Harmonic-resistant, long-lived system

Capacitors are assessed per IEC 60831 and the harmonic environment per IEC 61642. Detuned reactors and, where needed, harmonic filters prevent resonance and capacitor failures. Revision of existing panels and relay (C/k) tuning are also covered.

//01Frequently Asked Questions

With a correctly sized and tuned compensation system keeping the power factor within the regulatory inductive-20% / capacitive-15% limits. SOREAS determines the real need through analysis.

For facilities of 50 kVA and above, inductive reactive energy cannot exceed 20% of active energy and capacitive cannot exceed 15%; beyond that the utility charges a reactive penalty.

Usually harmonics and resonance damage the capacitors. An IEC 61642-based assessment with detuned reactors and harmonic filters protects the system; SOREAS inspects the existing panel and offers a solution.

Yes — after measurement and analysis, with stage, relay (C/k) tuning and reactor additions we modernise the existing panel.
